For the last decade or so, I’ve been voted on the John R. Wooden Award. Generally I wait until the last day, as I did this year, to factor in the first weekend of the tournament if two players are close. This year, I could have made my top choice at least a month ago.
In most years, I seem to select a player that doesn’t win it. (Last year, for instance, I went with UConn’s Kemba Walker No. 1, while BYU’s Jimmer Fredette took home the honor.)
This year, I don’t think it will be close. I chose Kentucky’s Anthony Davis as the top player in college basketball. Here’s the rest of my ballot:
2. Thomas Robinson, Kansas
3. Draymond Green, Michigan State
4. Tyler Zeller, North Carolina
5. Jared Sullinger, Ohio State
6. Isaiah Canaan, Murray State
7. Jae Crowder, Marquette
8. Marcus Denmon, Missouri
9. Kevin Jones, West Virginia
10. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Kentucky
The remaining players I left off the ballot: Austin Rivers, Duke; Kris Joseph, Syracuse; Scott Machado, Iona; Doug McDermott, Creighton; Damian Lillard, Weber State.
